Visits from NCBJ in 2025 to...

Laboratoire d’Astrophysique de Marseille, Marseille, France

In October researchers and students from the astrophysics division made use of the NAWA strategic partnership to visit two partner institutions. Prof Dr hab Katarzyna Małek, Dr Nandini Hazra, and Antonio Vanzanella met with experts on low surface brightness (LSB) galaxies at Laboratoire d’Astrophysique de Marseille. During their visit, the LSB group was joined by Dr Junais, a former post-doctoral researcher at NCBJ and leading LSB astronomer at Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias.

Using the NAWA Strategic Partnership, Dr. Darko Donewski, Giuliano Lorenzon, and Krzysztof Lisiecki visited collaborative partners at the University of Nova Gorica, in Slovenia. Both Giuliano Lorenzon and Krzysztof Lisiecki shared the amazing work they are doing in NCBJ through talks given to the Center for Astrophysics and Cosmology. This was followed by a round table talk to discuss a gravitationally lensed supernova that will be seen with the upcoming observations from the Viera C. Rubin Observatory. Visit of dr Priscila Pessi was transient's related, also focused at the Viera C. Rubin Observatory.

Supported by the Strategic Partnership Fund, Prof. Katarzyna Małek, Dr. Pratik Dabhade, and Anupama Mohanan conducted a collaborative visit to the Leiden Observatory in the Netherlands. Engagements with the radio astronomy group provided constructive feedback and scientific guidance that will contribute to the advancement of current research on radio galaxies. The visit reinforced existing collaborations and fostered new directions for future joint projects.
